Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. It often begins with burning, tingling, or stabbing pain, followed by a painful rash or blisters on one side of the body. Symptoms may also include itching, sensitivity to touch, nerve pain, fatigue, fever, and — in some cases — long-lasting nerve pain (Postherpetic Neuralgia). Flare-ups can be extremely painful and emotionally draining.
