Description
If you’ve been told to try “light compression” for your legs, Class 1 is usually what’s meant. These Activa below-knee stockings give 14 to 17 mmHg of graduated compression, which Activa describes as light to mild.
Who Class 1 is aimed at
Activa describes this level for early intervention: superficial signs of vein problems or early varicose veins, where there’s no swelling (oedema). People also wear them for everyday leg support when standing or sitting for long periods, on long-distance travel, and after an operation where a clinician advises it. If your legs swell, a different class may be needed, which is why a professional check matters.
Easier to pull on
Traditional support hosiery can be a battle to get on in the morning. Activa uses Tactel Micro, an ultra-fine nylon, with the smooth stretch of Lycra Soft, to make these lighter to wear and easier to put on. They’re latex free, medically approved, quick to dry and easy to care for.
Open toe
The toes are left uncovered. Some people like that for warm weather, for wearing a sock over the top, or for comfort with toe problems. Others prefer a closed toe. It’s worth deciding which you’d rather have.
Sizing
Compression only works properly if the size is right. Get measured before you buy, ideally by a pharmacist or nurse, and ideally first thing in the morning before your legs have had a chance to swell.
Check first
Activa recommends speaking to a nurse, GP or pharmacist to confirm compression hosiery is appropriate for you. This is especially important if you have diabetes, numbness in your feet, or poor circulation in your legs. A leg that’s suddenly swollen, red, warm or painful, especially on one side, needs urgent medical care.
Tired, achy legs can have several causes. The free Pain Check-Up can help you sort them out, and the heart and circulation groups are a place to ask about compression.
