About this product

Massage guns are everywhere now, and most look alike. The number that actually changes how one feels is amplitude: how far the head travels with each hit. The Boldfit BoldGun Thrust has a 6 mm stroke, deeper than Boldfit’s 4 mm Restore Mini, which means each pulse pushes further into the muscle.

Speed and intensity

There are six speed levels. The lowest are gentle “activation” settings, so you can start softly if you are new to percussion. The top setting reaches 3,700 percussions a minute. Most people find they use the lower half far more than the top.

Five heads in the box

You get two ball heads (one of them a dual ball), plus a flat, a bullet and a fork head. Boldfit points to the dual ball for wide areas such as the back, glutes and thighs. Smaller, pointier heads concentrate the force on a smaller spot, so go gently with those until you know how your body responds.

Battery

An 1800 mAh battery gives up to 1.5 hours per charge, and recharges by USB-C in about 3 hours. It switches off by itself after 15 minutes, so longer sessions mean turning it back on. Note that the digital screen and three-button control are on Boldfit’s Turbo model, not this one.

Using it sensibly

  • Glide slowly over muscle. Do not hammer one spot.
  • Stay away from the spine, neck, joints, bones and the front of the throat.
  • A minute or two per muscle group is usually enough.

Who should check first

If you have an injury, a medical condition, are pregnant, take blood thinners, or have osteoporosis or a clotting disorder, check with a clinician before using a percussion device. Never use it on a calf that is swollen, warm and painful, since that can be a sign of a clot.

The free ItHurts Pain Check-Up can help you understand your muscle soreness, and the sports and recovery groups share how they use massage guns.
