Description
Runners who can no longer run often miss the motion more than the miles. The ElliptiGO 11R is an outdoor elliptical bike: you stand and stride, as on a gym elliptical, but on the road.
The stride
ElliptiGO’s patented Elliptidrive gives a long, running-like stride without the pounding of feet hitting pavement. Stride length adjusts from 16 to 25 in, and crank length from 6.75 to 10.5 in, so you can match it to your body. Carbon-fiber drive arms cut weight and soak up road vibration.
Hills and gearing
A Shimano 11-speed internally geared hub gives a 409% total gear range. ElliptiGO says it can climb grades of 20 to 30% and still move quickly on the flat. It’s made for paved roads and paths, flat or hilly. Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires and Avid linear-pull brakes front and rear.

Who it suits
Former runners, current runners looking for a lower-impact day, and anyone who wants outdoor cardio while staying mindful of their joints. If you’re coming back from an injury or surgery, ask your clinician whether standing, striding exercise is right for you yet. Balance problems are also worth discussing first.
The free Pain Check-Up can help you plan a return to activity, and the sports injury and post-surgery groups are full of people finding new ways to train.
