Our contributors

Who writes for ItHurts?

Our contributors are a mixed bag (in the best way) — doctors, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, dietitians, researchers, health writers, vloggers, and everyday people who’ve simply been there. That range is what makes this place useful.

Who can contribute

Medical & healthcare professionals

Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, dietitians and other clinicians.

Researchers & educators

People who study pain, illness and recovery, and explain it clearly.

Journalists & writers

Careful reporting, health writing and blogging.

Video creators & vloggers

Stories, explainers and coping tips on video.

Caregivers

The people who show up for someone else, every day.

Patients & lived experience

Everyday people who have simply been there.

You don’t need to be a professional writer — just something genuine to share: relevant expertise, lived experience, careful reporting, or a story that can inform or support the community.

How we review

  • Every contributor submission gets human review. Automated checks help catch spam, duplicates, unsafe claims and link problems, but a human reviewer makes the editorial decision before publication.
  • Pain Insights gets clinical review. Medical, research and treatment information is held to a higher standard so claims are supported and responsibly presented.
  • Credentials may be checked before they are shown as verified. Private licence or registration details are used for review and are not automatically shown on the public profile.
  • Commercial relationships must be disclosed. Affiliate links, sponsorships and a contributor’s own products or services must be clearly disclosed with the submission.

Every contributor speaks for themselves — their views, their claims, their content. “Medically reviewed” means exactly that — and only when we say so on the page. If it doesn’t say it, assume it’s one person’s take, not a clinical consensus.

On a contributor profile

Only approved public information is shown, such as a public name, a biography, a verified title or credentials, areas of expertise, one approved professional or promotional link, and their published ItHurts contributions. People sharing lived experience may request a public display name or pseudonym.
