Description
Some people with back aches swear by a very firm bed; others find firm beds make their shoulders and hips sore. There’s no single right answer, so let’s be specific about who this one is for. The Luxe Majestic 9000 is an extra firm (9 out of 10) all-foam mattress, and Luxe itself says it suits back and stomach sleepers, not side sleepers.
What extra firm means here
It’s one block of high-density foam (CP-C42 to CP-C48 grade) designed for minimal sink and the same firmness from edge to edge. You lie on it rather than in it. Luxe recommends it for:
- back and stomach sleepers who want a flat, level surface
- heavier sleepers who want more load-bearing stability
- couples who don’t want to feel each other move
If you sleep on your side, the firm surface won’t give much at the shoulders and hips, and Luxe doesn’t recommend it for you.
This listing
UK double, 135 x 190 cm (4’6″ x 6’3″). Other firmness options are available, from Firm to Rock Hard.
How it’s made
Hand-built and checked in Britain from CertiPUR-certified Kayfoam foam, bonded with water-based adhesives. The 300 g cover zips off for machine washing. It’s flammability tested to BS 7177.
Trial and warranty
There’s a 100-night trial: a refund is possible up to night 60, and an exchange up to night 100. The first exchange is free; a second one is charged and final. Luxe suggests giving it about 30 nights, since 9/10 is a big change from a soft bed. The 5-year warranty is handled by Luxe directly.
If you have an ongoing back or neck condition, talk to a clinician before switching to a very firm surface. Back pain that wakes you, spreads down a leg or comes with numbness is worth checking regardless of the mattress.
Back pain and sleep tangled up? The free Pain Check-Up can help you sort it out, and the back and neck pain groups have plenty of firm-versus-soft debates.
