Description
Rubbing something into a stiff knee or sore wrist is a small ritual a lot of people with joint aches rely on. Optima Glucosamine Joint Complex Gel is a 125 ml massage gel built for that ritual, with a cooling start and a fresh, herbal scent.
What’s in the tube
- Glycosaminoglycans, which Optima describes as a source of glucosamine
- Devil’s claw (Harpagophytum procumbens)
- MSM (dimethyl sulfone)
- Menthol, for a cool feeling as you apply it
- Essential oils of lemon peel, eucalyptus and rosemary, plus orange peel extract
- Aloe vera leaf juice and Scots pine leaf extract
How it feels and how to use it
It’s a light, water-based gel that Optima says is non-greasy and absorbs straight away, so you’re not left with sticky hands or marks on clothes. Spread a thin layer over the area and rub it in gently until absorbed. You can use it several times a day as needed. The massage itself is part of the benefit, so take a minute over it.
Check before you rub
- Don’t use on broken or irritated skin, and keep it away from your eyes.
- Patch test first if your skin is sensitive. Check the ingredients if you’re allergic to citrus, eucalyptus or rosemary oils.
- Speak to a pharmacist or doctor first if you’re pregnant, take other medicines, or have joint pain that’s ongoing.
A gel is a comfort measure. A joint that’s hot, red and swollen, pain that wakes you at night, or stiffness that lasts more than an hour each morning is worth a doctor’s visit.
