Description
If you’re new to electrical stimulation, a handheld unit with lots of presets is an easy way in. The Boldfit PulseX combines TENS and EMS in one device with 24 programs and two separate channels.
Two kinds of stimulation
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) feels like a tingle under the pads; some people use it to take the edge off aches during a session. EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) makes the muscles under the pads contract.
Programs and strength
Twenty-four presets cover the neck, back, shoulders, arms, legs and feet. Twenty intensity levels run from very gentle upward. Channels A and B work independently, so you could do your neck and lower back at once, each at its own level. Sessions last from 10 to 90 minutes.
Screen and battery
A 54 × 77 mm backlit screen shows mode, intensity and time. The 3.7V battery charges by Type-C in about 3 hours, from a laptop, power bank or USB adapter, and lasts 3 to 8 hours depending on intensity.
Everything included
- The device and a user manual
- 5 pairs of electrode pads and 3 wires
- USB cable
- PU carry pouch and a board to store pads and wires
Where pads must not go
Boldfit says not to use it on broken skin, over the heart or near the head. It advises medical advice first if you have a pacemaker or epilepsy. General guidance also says to keep pads off the front of the neck, and to ask a clinician before use if you’re pregnant or have any implanted electronic device.
New pain, or pain with numbness or weakness, should be checked rather than masked. The free Pain Check-Up can help you get clear on symptoms, and the nerve and whole-body pain groups include many TENS users.
