Overview

The Winix 5510 is a tower-style room air purifier and the newer version of the Winix 5500-2, with Wi-Fi added. Air passes through four stages: a washable fine mesh pre-filter, an AOC carbon filter (carbon pellets for odours and VOCs), a True HEPA filter that Winix rates at 99.99% capture of airborne particles in its own commissioned testing, and Winix’s PlasmaWave stage. It is AHAM Verifide for 392 sq ft (4.8 air changes per hour) with CADR ratings of 252 / 247 / 253 for dust, pollen and smoke, and Winix states it can turn over rooms up to 1,882 sq ft once an hour.

Dual smart sensors read the air and set the fan in Auto Mode, a three-colour LED shows air quality, and a light sensor switches the unit into a dimmed, slower Sleep Mode when the room goes dark. It has five fan speeds, a timer set through the app, a filter replacement indicator LED, and connects to the Winix Smart app over Wi-Fi (Alexa compatible). Winix lists the lowest speed at 23.5 dB. • Winix’s own site now lists only the sister model 5520 (same specifications, different front-panel pattern); the user manual covers both.
