Description
Drinking enough water sounds easy until you live with pain, fatigue or medication that leaves your mouth dry. Anything that makes reaching for a glass more appealing can help. The Echo H2 is a kitchen machine that does two jobs: it filters your tap water and, if you choose, dissolves hydrogen gas into it.
Stage one: filtering
A WQA-certified 5-stage cartridge, using activated carbon, KDF55, tourmaline and a 0.1-micron filter, sits ahead of everything else. Echo says it targets chlorine, heavy metals, particles, iron and hydrogen sulfide, microorganisms, scale, and taste and odor. One cartridge is rated for 1,056 gallons (4,000 L), which Echo estimates is about a year for most households, and it swaps without tools.
Stage two: hydrogen
A hydrogen cell then dissolves 99.99% pure molecular hydrogen into the water, up to 1.44 ppm depending on your source water and usage. It does not ionize the water or change its pH. A button lets you choose hydrogen water or just filtered water. Research on hydrogen water is at an early stage, so we suggest thinking of the filtering and the habit as the main benefits.
This option: countertop install
Echo says setup takes about ten minutes with no plumber. It connects to your cold water line with the included diverter valve and tube, plugs in, and pours through its own flexible spout. In the box: the machine with cartridge, diverter valve, connection tube, spout and elbow, Teflon tape and a spanner. (The under-sink option needs a separate Echo faucet.)
- Flow: 1.2 L/min, enough to fill a bottle quickly.
- Size: 6.5 × 10.5 × 14.5 in, 10 lbs, brushed stainless.
- Power: 120 V or 240 V, up to 150 W.
- Cold water only: 41–84°F, 10–71 psi.
- 10-year warranty on the machine and hydrogen cell.
A light crackling or buzzing during use is normal, according to Echo. An optional cleaning cartridge is available for the hydrogen cell.
