Description
It’s nine at night. Your shoulders are up around your ears again, your lower back has that dull ache that showed up around lunchtime, and the thought of driving to another appointment is almost worse than the pain itself. You just want to sit down and have something work on your back while you do nothing at all.
What the massage actually feels like
The WholeBody 8.0 uses 3D FlexGlide orbital massage technology. Instead of knuckling into you, the rollers glide along the back — Human Touch describes the sensation as being like a warm oil massage. Patented warm air technology adds gentle heat on top of that, which many people find helps tight muscles let go faster than massage alone.
There are seven auto-wellness programs if you’d rather not fiddle with anything. When you want to be specific, BodyMap PRO lets you press the spot on the diagram where you want to feel better, and the chair works that area. The retractable ottoman holds a foot and calf massager, and CirQlation figure-eight technology moves the calves in an upward, wave-like motion toward the core. The headrest pad has a sliding pillow adjustment, which matters if your neck is the problem and your head never sits quite right in a chair.
Living with it in a real room
This is furniture, so measure before you commit. The base swivels 55 degrees, so you can turn toward the TV or the window without dragging the whole chair. Reclined, it takes up a lot more floor.

Cleaning it without ruining it
Human Touch is specific here. Unplug the chair from the outlet before you clean it. Use a dry cloth only on the controller and power switch — never a damp one. Test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden spot first to make sure the color holds. Don’t use benzene, thinner or any other solvent. For regular care, dust it often or vacuum it with a soft brush attachment, and use a water-based upholstery cleaner (cleaning code W) if it gets dirty.
Being honest about what a chair can do
This is a comfort tool. It can loosen tired muscles, give you a warm half hour and take the edge off a rough day. It won’t fix a disc problem, and it isn’t a substitute for care you need.
If you’re pregnant, recovering from surgery or an injury, have osteoporosis, blood clots, nerve damage, or an implanted device like a pacemaker, ask your doctor before using a powered massage chair. Some people also find the intensity stronger than expected without the back cushion pad in place, so start gentle. And if your pain is new, severe, follows a fall, comes with numbness, weakness or fever, get it looked at rather than massaged.
If you’re still working out what’s driving your pain, the free Pain Check-Up is a good starting point, and the back and neck pain groups on this page are full of people comparing notes on what helps at home.
