Description
It’s nine at night. You’ve already done the heating pad, the stretch you saw online, the slow walk around the kitchen. Your shoulders are still up by your ears and your lower back feels like a clenched fist. Sitting down helps for about four minutes.
What the massage actually feels like
The WholeBody 7.1 uses Human Touch’s patent-pending FlexGlide technology, which glides along the contours of your back rather than digging in with hard knuckles. The 3D orbital motion is meant to feel closer to a warm oil massage than a jackhammer. Patented warm-air technology adds gentle warmth through the back, which many people find makes tight muscles easier to let go of.
There are five auto-massage programs if you’d rather not think about it. When you do want control, BodyMap PRO lets you press the spot on the remote that matches where you want attention, and the chair works there. The retractable ottoman has a foot and calf massager with CirQlation figure-eight technology, which moves the calves in an upward, wave-like motion. The base swivels 55 degrees, so you’re not stuck facing one direction.
Measure before it shows up
This is a real piece of furniture, not a cushion you tuck away. Upright it’s 44″ long, 28″ wide and 40″ high; reclined it stretches to 66″ long and drops to 29″ high. It needs 9″ of clearance behind it. The chair weighs 114 lb, and the maximum user weight is 285 lb. Pad sets come in Black, Bone or Espresso SofHyde, and it’s backed by a 3-year limited warranty.
| Upright dimensions | 44″L × 28″W × 40″H |
|---|---|
| Reclined dimensions | 66″L × 28″W × 29″H |
| Seat | 21″W × 18″D × 19″H |
| Max load | 285 lb |
| Rear clearance | 9″ |
Looking after the upholstery
Human Touch asks you to unplug the chair before cleaning. Use a dry cloth only on the controller and power switch — never a damp one. The SofHyde carries cleaning code W, so use a water-based upholstery cleaner, and spot clean stains with upholstery shampoo or mild detergent foam. No benzene, thinner or other solvents. Test any cleaner on a hidden patch first in case the color fades.
Being honest about it
This is a comfort tool. It can make a sore back feel looser and an evening feel kinder, and that is genuinely worth something — but it isn’t medical care. If your pain is new or severe, if you have numbness or weakness, a fever, or it started after a fall or crash, get checked by a clinician first. The same goes if you’re pregnant, have osteoporosis, a recent surgery or injury, blood clots, or an implanted device like a pacemaker: ask your doctor before using a powered massage chair. Warmth and pressure aren’t right for everyone.
If you want to make sense of your own pattern before you spend anything, the free Pain Check-Up is a good start, and the back and neck pain groups on this page are full of people comparing notes on what helps at home.
