Description
Small red light gadgets work one patch at a time. If your aches are spread across your back, hips and thighs, you can spend a whole evening moving a little device around. The Mvolo Platinum Series 6000 is a big panel meant to light you from shoulders to knees in one session.
The light
210 dual LED chips give out seven wavelengths: 630, 660 and 670 nm red, and 810, 830, 850 and 1060 nm near-infrared. Mvolo lists output above 205 mW/cm² at 10 cm. Red and near-infrared light are being studied for muscle comfort and recovery, and results so far are mixed. Think of it as an addition to your routine, not the whole plan.
Controls on the remote
- Brightness at 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100%.
- A 60° beam angle you can adjust.
- Pulse from 0 to 999 Hz.
- Timer from 5 to 60 minutes.
Setting it up
The panel is 91 × 21 × 7 cm and weighs 7 kg. It comes with a wheeled floor stand, a door hanging system and a 3 m cable, so you can sit, stand or stretch in front of it. Panel power is listed at 1050 W, with actual consumption around 290 W. Also in the box: a remote, protective goggles and a manual in Dutch, German and English. Mvolo gives a 2-year warranty and a 90-day return period, and the panel is CE certified.
Using it safely
Mvolo suggests 3 to 5 sessions a week at 10 to 20 cm, with at least 10 cm of distance and about 20 minutes at most per session. Wear the supplied goggles every time. If you are pregnant, take medication that makes you sensitive to light, or have a health condition, check with your doctor before starting.
Widespread pain that is not settling, or comes with fatigue, fever or weight loss, is worth discussing with your doctor before you buy equipment.
The free ItHurts Pain Check-Up is a good first step, and the whole-body and fibromyalgia groups have members using light panels at home.
